[Music plays.]
[A slide with the CIBC logo and the heading “CIBC INVESTOR’S EDGE” in the top left corner. In the middle of the slide is the title “Fractional share” with the subheading “Simple steps to get started” beneath it.]
[An off-screen narrator speaks.]
>>Narrator: Ever looked at a stock and thought, I'd like to invest in that, but the price puts it out of reach?
[A computer monitor slides onscreen from the bottom. On the computer monitor’s screen is the home page of CIBC Investor’s Edge logged in to an account. The monitor zooms in slightly. The monitor is then pushed off screen to the left by an illustration of three piles of red, non-descript coins. There is an individual coin, face out to the viewer, with a dollar sign symbol on it. There are five slightly-animated shimmers surrounding the coins. The illustration is then pushed to the left off-screen by a red background with the text “Fractional shares.” The “Fractional shares” text is pushed off screen to the left by an illustration of eight building blocks. Seven of the blocks have stock symbols on the viewer-facing side. From top to bottom, the symbols are: “AMZN”, “NVDA”, “AAPL”, “MSFT”, “COST”, “V” and “WMT.” The block at the top left is void of a symbol. This block then floats up slightly, moves to left of the other blocks. The block then drops to the ground.]
With fractional shares, you don't have to buy a whole share to invest. You can own a piece a fraction based on the dollar amount you choose to invest.
[The blocks illustration is pushed offscreen from the bottom and is replaced by the title “How fractional shares work.” A small icon of a contract, which represents a share slides on screen from the left. Next to the icon are two input boxes separated by an equals symbol. In the first box is “0.00000 Shares”. In the second box is “$ 0.00 USD.” “Pick a stock/ETF” text slides in from the left and stops under the stock icon. “WXYZ = $250/share” appears above the input boxes. “Choose your dollar amount” appears below the right-most input box. “600.00 USD” fills in the right-most input box. “2.40000 Shares” fills in the left-most box.]
Here's how it works. Instead of buying by the number of shares you invest by dollar amount, you choose a stock or ETF. Decide how much you want to put in.
[The right-most input box fills in with a new value of “100.00 USD.” The left-most box fills in with a new value of “0.40000 Shares.” Text below the boxes fades in “If you are investing less than the price of one share then you receive a fraction of a share proportional to your investment.” The text “Fractional shares trades are subject to market risk” slides in at the bottom of the page.]
And if you are investing less than the price of one share, then you receive a fraction of a share proportional to your investment. Keep in mind fractional shares carry the same market risks as whole shares.
[The text heading “Fractional share benefits” pushes all graphics off screen to the left. Beneath the heading appear 3 bullet points. The first is "Access a wider range of stocks." The second bullet point is "Invest across more companies." The third bullet point is "Invest on your schedule." At the bottom of the screen appears a small-font note that is “Returns are not guaranteed and the value of your investment can go up or down."]
Fractional shares can make it easier to access stocks that might otherwise be out of reach. Invest across a broader range of companies and put money to work on a schedule that works for you, regardless of share price. As with any investment, returns are not guaranteed and the value of your investment can go up or down.
[A computer monitor pushes in from the left and pushes all other items off screen. On the computer monitor’s screen is the home page of CIBC Investor’s Edge logged in to an account. The screen zooms in on the webpage and the monitor outline disappears off screen.]
It's time to see how to place your first fractional trade on CIBC Investor's Edge.
[On the right side of the webpage a trade ticket appears. In the symbol input box a symbol appears. The symbol is “wxyz.” A dropdown menu appears below the input box and shows two stock names and descriptions. The first is “WXYZ:CDN WXYZ CAD HEDGED CDR.” Just below this the second is “WXYZ:US WXYZ ORD.” A white pointer icon in the shape of a pointing finger fades in beside the input box. The pointer moves over the second stock name. A red box fades in around a blue graphic box with text. In the box is “Fractional.”]
When selecting a stock or ETF, notice how a fractional tag indicates that you can trade this symbol in fractions.
[Another blue graphic box with the text “Fractional” is at the bottom of the trade ticket. A red box fades in around this blue graphic.]
You'll notice the same fractional tag in other areas as part of the symbol data.
[A red box fades in over two trade ticket input boxes. The right input box has the text “100 USD.” The left input box has the text “0.30002 Shares.” This text is then underlined in red.]
You can enter the dollar amount that you'd like to spend, and the order entry ticket will calculate how many shares can be bought, including any fractional pieces up to five decimal points.
[The left side of the page blurs and reveals text on the top left side of the page. It’s a two-item list. The first item is “The calculator estimates the total cost.” The second item is “Estimates do not include commissions, fees or foreign exchange charges.” The blurred page sharpens again.]
The calculator estimates the total cost. Estimates do not include commissions, fees or foreign exchange charges.
[On the order entry ticker, a red box fades in to frame the button “Market”. The frame fades out. A new red box fades in to frame the button “Day” on the order entry ticket. Red text fades in below the “Day” button. The text is “9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. EST.” The framed box and text then fad out.]
Just remember that when trading fractional shares, only market orders can be used and the orders are only good during regular market hours of 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern time.
[The buy order ticket dissolves into a sell order ticket. A red framed box fades in around the quantity input box.]
When selling, you must use the quantity input only in order to sell off any fractional shares that you own. Happy trading!
[The screen is wiped from bottom to top. Text on screen is “Trade smarter, not harder with CIBC’s Investor’s Edge.”]
[The screen wipes from left to right. On screen is disclaimer text. The text says, “CIBC Investor's Edge is a division of CIBC Investor Services Inc. Investing involves risk. The value of your investments can go up or down and you may receive less than you invest. Fractional shares are subject to the same market risks as whole shares. This video is for informational purposes only and does not constitute investment advice.”]
[The screen wipes from left to right. On screen is the CIBC animation. The animation text is “CIBC CIBC INVETSOR’S EDGE”. At the bottom of the screen there is a small disclaimer. The text is “CIBC logo CIBC INVESTOR’S EDGE® The CIBC logo and “CIBC Investor’s Edge” are registered trademarks of CIBC, used under license.”]
[Music stops.]
